How it works
Watch the 3D Animation of the Bawat ballast water management system (BWMS) on board vessels
The Bawat ballast water treatment system (BWTS) is available for both new build and retrofit applications on ships! Bawat’s ballast water management system (BWMS) represents a real innovative breakthrough in ballast water management.
The Bawat system uses heat treatment (pasteurization) as method to eliminate harmful microorganisms in ballast water in a one-pass solution, which makes it an efficient and cost-effective solution for ships.
The solution exploits available on-board waste energy to treat ballast water making it the most sustainable system in the market. It does not require the use of UV or filters which leads to simple maintainance and operation.
- Treatment in voyage
- Exploits waste heat
- Wellknown components
- Easy maintenance

Key benefits of our BWMS
No Chemicals
No more expensive chemicals and no impact from brackish water.
No Filters
No expensive filter maintenance and offhire.
No UV
Challenging water no longer an issue. No more reactor cleaning.
Independent of water quality
Works efficiently in all water conditions - no impact from turbidity, salinity, or temperature.
No Holding Time
One pass neutralises all organisms (D-2 Compliant).
No Impact on Cargo Operations
By-pass the BWMS during cargo operations. IMO and US Coast Guard Approved.
No Expensive Sensors
No TRO Sensors, UV Intensity & Transmittance Sensors or Turbidity Sensors. Our system only uses Temperature and Pressure sensors.
Heat Based
Uses pasteurisation - simply heating the water to remove invasive species and pathogens - a simple and proven solution.

The Bawat system is perfectly suited for new builds and retrofit:
New buildings:
For new builds, the Bawat system can be integrated into the ship’s design and installed during the construction process. This allows shipbuilders and ship owners to ensure compliance with ballast water treatment regulations from the outset.
Retrofit:
For retrofit applications, the Bawat system can be installed on existing vessels to bring them into compliance with ballast water treatment regulations. The system is customized to fit the specific needs and requirements of each vessel, and can be installed with minimal disruption to the ship’s operations.
