The Challenge
Herborch-Kiere, operating out of Antwerp Harbour, needed a reliable and flexible way to treat ballast water for a large number of vessels calling their home port. With multiple ships and varying operational needs, they required a solution that delivered:
- High flexibility
- Easy operation and maintenance
- Compatibility with existing port activities
- Cost efficiency compared to installing systems on individual vessels
To ensure the right fit, Herborch-Kiere conducted a three-month trial of Bawat’s mobile BWMS during spring 2020.
The Solution: Bawat Mobile BWMS
Bawat’s mobile BWMS is a containerized, compact system that can easily be moved or positioned within a port. It enables ballast water treatment on land or on a barge for ships that:
Herborch-Kiere found that the Bawat mobile solution worked exceptionally well for their operational setup. The mobile system provided the flexibility and simplicity they required across multiple vessels in one port—without the need for onboard installations.
Herborch-Kiere confirms:
“We were very pleased to have the chance to try out Bawat’s mobile BWMS during spring 20202 and found that it worked out perfectly for our needs. The flexibility, the easy maintenance and ease of working with the well known components made it the easy choice…”.
The Outcome
Bawat’s mobile BWMS allows ballast water treatment on land or barge in ports, terminals and shipyards. By establishing and operating mobile treatment units, a large number of ships can be serviced per unit, installations on each ship is avoided, resulting in lower treatment costs to the ship owner. Especially for customers like Herborch-Kiere that has a large number of ships in one port this solution is perfect.
The mobile solution provides:
- High operational flexibility
- Low maintenance and familiar components
- Cost-effective treatment across multiple vessels
- A reliable compliance pathway without onboard installation
